Congratulations Graduates

This represents the closing of one chapter and the start of another and we are so proud of you. It’s very exciting to look ahead to the future, especially when you are approaching a specific goal, so as you look forward to this occasion there are some very important guidelines to keep in mind in order to complete your senior year and become eligible to participate in Graduation (May 12, 2018).

Here you will find all the information you need as you prepare to “Depart to Serve”.

Presidential Senior Reception

Tickets are available for pick up Monday, May 1, 2018 at 9am through Monday, May 8th by COB.

Each graduating Senior must be on the approved list of graduates and must provide a form of identification (OU ID, driver’s license, etc.) in order to pick up their tickets.

Ordering Regalia

Students should order their graduation regalia online at Please do not change the address as your cap and gown will be delivered to the bookstore.   You will be able to purchase extra tassels (if you are a dual degree recipient), diploma frames etc.

Please note after ordering your cap and gown, you must visit the Office of Student Accounts to make your graduation fee payment of $339.00. The deadline for this payment is January 31, 2018.

Invitations may be purchased online, at, at an additional cost.


Is there a Graduation rehearsal? If so, when?
Yes, there is! There is one scheduled rehearsal to be held at the Oakwood University Church on May 11 at 11:30am. Attendance is mandatory.

When/Where can I pick up my Cap and Gown?
You can pick up your cap and gown at the Graduation Fair on March 19 at the Oakwood University Bookstore. If you aren’t able to do so on the 19th, the office will assist you on the 20th.

How do I know if I qualify to graduate with honors?
In order to graduate with honors, students must meet the following GPA requirements
Honorable Mention                 Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25
Cum Laude                             Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50
Magna Cum Laude                 Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75
Summa Cum Laude               Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.90

When will I receive my official diploma?
Diplomas will be mailed out on June 30, 2018. Please call the Registrar’s office for more information.
