Drs. Leslie and Prudence Pollard and Dr. James Mbyirukira visited Kigali, Rwanda from February 27 to March 4. The purpose of the visit was to tour the University, dialogue with partners, and most importantly to discuss and sign a historic memorandum of cooperation between Oakwood University and the Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA).
The visit reinforced the work and mission of the Consortium of African Adventist University and Partners (CAAUP), founded by Dr. Pollard in 2011, and consists of 16 member institutions between Africa and the Caribbean. Its purpose is to facilitate globalization and cultural-competency in faculty development through international service and exposure.
While in Kigali, Dr. Pollard dialogued with conference and union administrators, and delivered the sermon at the AUCA Campus Church on Sabbath.
One of the sobering highlights of the trip was visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial which memorializes the genocide of 1994, in which 800,000 Rwandans were killed in 100 days. This historic site is the final resting place of 250,000 persons.
These are just a few pictures, highlighting the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, the Church service sermon, and the visit to the Memorial.
