New students and freshmen started arriving on the campus of Oakwood University last week for New Student Orientation. Pictured above is a lively group of students listening to a presentation in Moran Hall.
“We are so excited by the response of our students to the Freshman/New Student Orientation. An exceptional amount of work made this year’s orientation program unforgettable,” said Dr. Leslie Pollard, President of Oakwood University.
Just before the annual Parting Ceremony on August 9, Alumni and Friends provided free frozen yogurt to students and their families in the Millet Activity Center. The Parting Ceremony is one last opportunity for parents to offer their final words of encouragement before leaving their students in the care of the Oakwood family. In the commission of “depart to serve,” local Oakwood alumni helped soothe the pain of separation by serving the cool Healthy Campus 20/20 treats. All of the frozen yogurts were provided by anonymous alumni donors. Part of the application process was to write an essay answering the questions: Why did you choose to attend Oakwood University?” And “How do your personal values align with Oakwood’s mission?” Applications were evaluated by volunteer alumni judges.
